Our Review:

Go-Wii provide their members with step by step videos on how to set up the downloading software, find what they're looking for on the distributed network, and transfer these files to Wii or CD/DVD for off-line use. Wii games are not the only files you access; you can also download unlimited songs, lyrics, movies, TV shows, wallpapers, screensavers and lots more. The software helps you to find your chosen files on the P2P network, download them to your PC or Mac, transfer them to your Wii or burn them to CD/DVD. It's as easy as 1, 2, 3.

For an additional $17.88 per year (i.e. $1.49 per month), Go-Wii says you can "Get Blazing Fast Downloads + 1 Year Download Protection (Free Updates & New releases)". However, you should be aware that many of our top ranked music download sites supply free updates and free new releases of the software for no additional cost (it is factored into their 1,2 or lifetime membership packages). In fact, one of the main reasons to opt for lifetime membership is to benefit from the continuous software upgrades that are available in the members' area. So we don't think you should have to pay extra for this if the basic membership package is not any cheaper than that of rivals. What about the other part of the optional add-on: the "blazing fast downloads"? Unfortunately, we didn't find a dramatic increase in the download speed either. As this add-on would add an extra 45% to a Lifetime membership, without a significant return, we have concluded that it is very poor value for money.

We think it is bizarre that Go-Wii ask you if you would like to pay $11.95 extra for "Access to Unlimited Music & Movie Downloads" when you already have this unlimited access if you sign up for any of the three membership options: 1-Year, 2-Year or Lifetime Full & Unlimited Access. Remember that once you have installed a Peer-2-Peer downloader you will have a gateway to download whatever movies or music you can find among the millions of Peer-2-Peer users worldwide. You are limited only by the availability of the item you are looking for. If it exists on the P2P network then you can freely download. There is no need to to pay anything extra for "Access to Unlimited Music & Movie Downloads" unless of course you are getting some cool utility, like a movie player or music player. However, even those players could probably be downloaded for free from some other P2P user somewhere in the world. It is just a matter of finding them. So once again, we suggest that you think twice before choosing to pay extra for add-ons which you do not need.

Perhaps most disturbingly, when we checked the boxes indicate that we wanted:

  1. Lifetime membership: $39.95
  2. Blazing Fast Downloads + 1 Year Download Protection (Free Updates & New releases $1.49/month) which should amount to $17.88 for 12 months.
  3. Access to Unlimited Music & Movie Downloads for only $11.95

instead of being charged $39.95 + $17.88 + $11.95 = $69.78, the payment page had a total of $82.73. This is a discrepancy of $12.95. Call us cynical, but we couldn't help thinking that these optional extras were designed to mislead and confuse customers into over-paying, not once, but twice! So instead of paying $39.95 a customer ends up handing over $82.73!

We were also a little confused by the lack of consistency in the refund policy listed on the Go-Wii website. The FAQ page says they "offer a 60 Days full refund guarantee" while the sign-up page states that: "your membership is backed by a 7 day satisfaction guarantee."

Go-Wii.com have been marked down in our rankings for these questionable issues. If you avoid these unnecessary extras, then the service you receive from Go-Wii is ok. However, if you are wary of a site that appears to be intentionally misleading people into over-paying, then we suggest that you avoid Go-Wii and have a look at the services offered by our higher ranking sites. They don't, so far as we can tell, attempt to mislead their customers like Go-Wii.com appear to do.

Rumor: Windows 8 will play Xbox 360 games
Though it's still a rumor, CNET sister site GameSpot is reporting that Windows 8 may be able to play Xbox 360 games. It certainly seems like a plausible move for Microsoft. Originally posted at Crave
